What is a Phlebotomist?

The Phlebotomist is a healthcare professional who is trained to collect blood and non-blood specimens from patients to be analyzed in a laboratory. Phlebotomist work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, acute care facilities, blood donation centers, labs, and doctor's offices. In addition to drawing blood, phlebotomists are responsible for properly labeling and storing blood samples, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients, and adhering to safety and infection control protocols. 

Why become a Phlebotomist? 

As a phlebotomist you have the option to work in several different healthcare settings and impact several patients every day!  If you are caring and compassionate about helping others, this job may be just for you. Our program will prepare you to work as a Phlebotomist in any clinical environment. You will be taught anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, effective communication, infection control practices, phlebotomy principals, commonly used equipment, specimen collection and handling. After completion of the program, you will be able to sit for a National Certification. 

On-site Training

While we understand the draw to online classes, we believe courses requiring hands on experience need to be taught in person. How would you feel about a technician drawing your blood who completed an online program versus the phlebotomist who attended class, practiced in a lab with simulators and practiced on live humans? We know who we want drawing our blood!  As a student of Signature Healthcare, you will practice live venipuncture, capillary sticks and have time to master various techniques. With real world and live experiences, we believe you will graduate with an advantage over others and feel confident as you embark on a new career!  Our program will prepare you to work as a Phlebotomist in any clinical environment. You will be taught anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, effective communication, infection control practices, phlebotomy principals, commonly used equipment, specimen collection and handling. After completion of the program, you will be able to sit for a National Certification. 

Certificate of Completion vs Certification in Phlebotomy - Understanding the Difference

Obtaining a Certificate of Completion means the student has been awarded a certificate by an educational institution. It signifies the student has completed a given curriculum.

Having a Certification in Phlebotomy means you have been awarded credentials from a National Certification Agency. To earn the credentials the student has completed training from an approved training program, completed a certain number of live venipuncture and capillary draws and has passed a national certification exam. 

There are several certifications for phlebotomists and each carry national recognition.
